CaptionsRush Review: Is It Worth It in 2026?

· Reviewed by Dan

Real-time captions on top of games and live streams so you can actually follow what people say. Great if you're hard of hearing or just miss a lot of what's going on.

Who Is It For?

People who struggle to hear what's going on. If you're hard of hearing or deaf, you get captions on social and in videos, but we never really solved this in games. When you play with friends or in a group, you often miss what everyone says. CaptionsRush is for that. It was built by a hard of hearing gamer who wanted to play with his kid and not miss the experience. It works in games, on Twitch, YouTube, Discord, and most places that produce audio. It's also useful if you're not hard of hearing but you want more clarity, or you're not a native speaker and need the extra help.

What I Like

It works with everything that's popular. Games, live streams, Discord. The captions sit on top of the game layer so you can read while you play. That's the main thing. It's made by someone who needed it himself, so the product is tuned for exactly what hard of hearing users need: fully customizable, on top of everything, and it uses Google's transcription models, not cheap local Whisper. That's why the quality is good and why it supports so many languages.

It's free right now during the beta. When it goes paid, the plan is to start around $5 a month. That's very affordable for what you get. If you don't always hear what's going on, or you know someone who doesn't, this is a tool that actually fills the gap.

What Could Be Better

There's a small delay between when someone says something and when the caption shows up. It's not perfect, but users say it's good enough even for competitive gaming. The maker is working on improving it. Discord integration is a bit brittle right now, and a smoother integration is in progress. There's no Mac version yet, but that's coming too.

Verdict

CaptionsRush is a great product for a problem that doesn't get enough good solutions. If you don't always hear what's going on in games or on streams, or you play with kids or in groups and miss a lot of the chat, try it. It's free in beta and the future pricing is reasonable. I recommend it, and it's worth passing on to anyone you know who would benefit.
